What is Spotify?
Spotify is a new way to enjoy music. Simply download and install, before you know it you’ll be singing along to the genre, artist or song of your choice. With Spotify you are never far away from the song you want.
There are no restrictions in terms of what you can listen to or when. Forget about the hassle of waiting for files to download and fill up your hard drive before you get round to organising them. Spotify is instant, fun and simple.
I love Spotify - infact I’m yet to find anyone that doesn’t. It’s been a long time since I last stumbled upon a product or service that I find myself praising to just about everyone - and ultimately forcing persuading them to download.
Simply put, Spotify is an iTunes-esque program that lets you search for any song, and stream it (without the annoying buffering). Okay, so you can’t download the song to your iPod, but it’s a fantastic program if you listen to music on your computer. This is certainly the future of music online.
The free version of Spotify is ad-funded and the audio ads play once every 10 songs. What’s frustrating about this, isn’t the frequency but infact the model they have opted for. My good friend Alistair takes issue with this exact point at his blog - read to find out the response he got direct from Spotify.
Despite the not-so-perfect ad model, the future is bright for Spotify. Just yesterday they announced that they had hired Yahoo!’s Director of Business Development, Gustav Söderström as director of “portable solutions”. Spotify on your mobile? Awesome!

Its alright. But theres no getting away from the fact that I can’t put any of the music onto my BB. Although, they have just hired one of the Yahoo big guns as they’re VP of Devices (or something like that). So with a bit of luck, they’re going to keep pushing the ‘ol boundary.
I’d love it tenfold if I could import my own music collection.
