Twitter + Twestival

Twitter: ‘The Media Who’s Who’ post I compiled earlier this week has been extremely well received, creating a lot of buzz and discussion. It was a pleasure to put it together and I’ve met some really interesting people through doing it. That post alone has received near 1000 visits over the last 72 hours, subsequently connecting lots of influential people. Pretty powerful stuff for what is essentially just a long list of Twitter URLs.

However, there’s nothing more powerful in the ‘Twitterverse’ than Twestival, a fundraising event held in 202 cities around the world, created and linked solely by the Twitter community. What an extraordinary success it’s been with Twestival organisers raising over $250,000 so far for charity:water. That’s 55 water projects in Ethiopia, Uganda and India giving clean water to just over 17,000 people.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it to the London Twestival but the video here put together by Prompt Communications gives a great idea of how the night went. It’s interesting to see people’s different opinions of the Twitter service. Whilst discussing its numerous uses, many highlight its value in business, where some show interest in using it to bring them closer to celebrities such as Stephen Fry, (who can now boast to be the second most followed person on Twitter just behind Barack Obama). My favourite quote from the video has to come from a charming blonde Tweep; “I tried to get Russell Brand to sleep with me, but it didn’t work because he was a fake”.

If you weren’t able to contribute to the good cause, it’s not too late. You can do so here.

One response so far, want to say something?

These are some interesting ideas. You mentioned some points that I hadn’t previously considered. I’ll subscribe and see if you post any updates.
