Visa + ‘Crutch Master’

Above is the new ad from Visa as part of the ‘life flows better’ campaign. What makes this creative even more spectacular is that it’s star Bill Shannon is not a stunt man, but actually a self-taught conceptual dancer born with a degenerative hip condition. He’s affectionately known in the dance world as ‘Crutch Master’.

Visa comments ‘The beauty of Bills movement is as inspirational as it is mesmerising. The fluidity of his dance moves meant that it didnt take us long to realise that he was the perfect embodiment of VISAs flow campaign. He was first spotted in a promo for RJD2 shot by Joey Garfield that was featured on the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors showcase. In the TV ad not only does Bills choreography represent life flowing effortlessly but his flow and movement throughout the film turns a mundane shopping trip into something quite magical. Bill is an amazing artist, a one off, and his commitment to making this film as good as it could be was unparalleled.’

Watch Bill Shannon in the video for ‘Work It Out’ by RJD2 below. A charming video I’ve admired for some time in which director Joey Garfield took to the streets of New York and captured one continuous shot of Shannon expressing himself through dance on crutches.
